Real Turkey ExperiencesHiking the Lycian Way: A Seven-Day Trek from Fethiye to Kaş

Day 1: Fethiye to Faralya
We start at the official Lycian Way trailhead in Ovacık, just outside Fethiye. The route begins with a steady climb up the lower slopes of Babadağ Mountain, offering views of the Ölüdeniz coastline. The first destination is Faralya, a small village above Butterfly Valley.
Upon arrival, we set up camp on a hill overlooking the valley. There are also pensions in the village for those not carrying tents.
Distance: ~13 km
Elevation gain: Moderate
Day 2: Faralya to Sidyma
From Faralya, the trail continues east through pine forests and rural paths. We pass terraced farmland and follows old stone roads leading inland to Sidyma, an ancient Lycian city. The ruins of Sidyma include sarcophagi, tombs, and scattered stonework, mostly untouched by tourism.
Camping is possible near the village, and basic accommodation may be available with local families.
Distance: ~17 km
Terrain: Mixed, with some steep rocky sections
Day 3: Sidyma to Pydnai
The third day takes us toward the coast again. The path winds through fields and forest tracks, eventually descending toward Pydnai, another ancient Lycian site. The ruins of Pydnai are mostly defensive structures, including walls and towers, located near Kumluova and the long beach at Patara.
Camping options are available near the ruins or in the open countryside.
Distance: ~16 km
Highlights: Historical remains, coastal approach
Day 4: Pydnai to Üzümlü
From Pydnai, we move inland toward Üzümlü, a quiet mountain village. The route includes moderate elevation gain as it climbs away from the coast. Üzümlü is known for its traditional village life, grape farming, and remote setting.
Basic accommodation may be available in local guesthouses or village homes. Supplies can be restocked here.
Distance: ~15 km
Terrain: Gradual ascent, remote trails
Day 5: Üzümlü to Sarıbelen
We continue through wooded hills and stony tracks toward the village of Sarıbelen. This part of the trail is less traveled and passes through open terrain and traditional farmland. Sarıbelen has limited infrastructure but is a quiet overnight stop.
Camping is common, though small pensions may be available depending on the season.
Distance: ~14 km
Facilities: Limited
Day 6: Sarıbelen to Çukurbağ
On day six, the trail gradually climbs toward Çukurbağ, a village set in a high plateau near the Taurus Mountains. The path offers inland views and occasional glimpses of the sea in the distance. Çukurbağ is a known stopping point for hikers, with a few options for lodging and water.
Distance: ~13 km
Elevation gain: Moderate
Day 7: Çukurbağ to Kaş
The final day leads us back to the coast. The path descends from Çukurbağ, passing through rocky terrain and Mediterranean shrubland. After several hours of hiking, we reach the coastal town of Kaş, a popular destination for both hikers and divers.
Kaş offers full services including accommodation, food, and transportation, making it a suitable endpoint for this one-week section of the Lycian Way.
Distance: ~12 km
Trail type: Mixed descent
